The singer and TV personality spoke with ET backstage at the 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards over the weekend.

Adrienne Bailon-Houghton isn’t mad about plastic surgery speculation — in fact, the singer and TV personality appreciates the compliment.

Adrienne spoke with ET’s Deidre Behar backstage at the 2023 Daytime Emmy Awards over the weekend, and addressed her recent response to a comment on social media that suggested she has “a great surgeon.”

“I think it was really hard for me to pull it together, being a mom, feeling like I didn’t have enough time for myself in that sense of going to the gym… and then seeing a comment like that, I was like, ‘I look good enough that someone thinks this was surgery? That’s amazing!'” she exclaimed with a laugh. “I was like, ‘I’ve done something right, that someone thinks I paid someone a lot of money to look like this.'”

In her response to the comment on Instagram, Adrienne wrote, “Wow … this is the greatest compliment. My surgeon is @nyricanmama,” and tagging her mom, Nilda Felix, in the reply.

For Adrienne, she feels the comment is reflective of the self-image issues that a lot of women in modern society struggle with.

“It just really [comes] down to the idea of women, we are so hard on ourselves, we beat ourselves up and to somebody else we probably look like a million bucks, or what they dream of, or what they think looks like plastic surgery or perfection,” she shared. “What they didn’t see was the cellulite that was in the back of that photo. But that’s just the reality of getting older and genetics. And I can thank my mom for that, too.”

Adrienne’s excitement has been bolstered by her role as a mom, as well, after she and her husband, Israel Houghton, welcomed a baby boy, Ever, via surrogate in August 2022.

Reflecting on her life over the past year, Adrienne marveled, “Oh my gosh, it’s been a really special one. A little crazy but super special.”

The singer said her experience with her young son has been “so awesome” — even amid an accidental mishap that left her with a busted lip for the Daytime Emmy Awards.

“He head butted me this morning,” she revealed. “I had a busted lip this morning! But even in those moments, I’m like, ‘Oh my god… I have a baby boy that head butts me and [yet] it’s still beautiful.'”

“He’s starting to bite, so he doesn’t know that it hurts, [and] I will say, ‘Ouch,’ and then he starts crying! And I’m like, ‘You just bit me!… Why are you looking like you’re devastated, because I don’t let you bite me?'” she said with a laugh. “It’s hysterical.”

Since welcoming her son, Adrienne said she feels “amazing,” and has been working hard to focus on her health and her fitness.

“I’ve fallen in love with working out,” she explained. “I hated it for such a long time. I think finding the right trainer was a big part of that. I think a lot of people think that if they train you super hard, and they’re like militant with it, that it [works better]. No! It actually makes me not want to go back.”

With her role as a mom and her newfound appreciation for hitting the gym, Adrienne is looking forward for the year to come, explaining, “2024 looks like an amazing stay at home, work from home mom life [kind of year]. It’s the year of routine for me. I’ve never had routine since I was like 14, 15 years old, and the idea of doing the same thing every single day sounds like the greatest thing that could ever happen to me.”

However, she’s also looking forward to possibly recording some new music — from the comfort of her home studio, sometime in the coming year, and to hopefully be released in 2025 —  and she already has a solid idea for what it’s going to sound like.

“I wouldn’t say it’s gonna be pop — it might lean a little bit more Reggaeton vibes, party vibes,” she explained. “I like the positivity of like Lizzo’s music mixed with like Bad Bunny beats, [mixed] with Becky G fun. I’m here for it! A little combo.”
