After saying last week he would enter the transfer portal, starting cornerback Sage Ryan decided to stay at LSU.
Ryan confirmed his decision to The Advocate after he practiced with the team Tuesday morning. LSUOdyssey first reported the news.
Ryan wrote in an Instagram post Friday he would enter the transfer portal “effective immediately,” but he never formally submitted his name. In the days since, LSU tried to convince him to stay and Ryan changed his mind.
A five-star recruit in the 2021 class from Lafayette, Ryan played safety and nickel the first two years of his career. He was moved to cornerback, a position he had not played before at LSU, in preseason practice. He has two years of eligibility.
Ryan started the season opener against Florida State at cornerback. He then started the last eight games. Ryan finished with 35 tackles, 4 ½ tackles for loss and three pass breakups.
LSU coach Brian Kelly often complimented Ryan’s tackling. He said near the end of the season, “Having him now at the corner, I can match him up on the best player.”
